Eastman & Smith Relocates to New Downtown Toledo Office Space

Commits to Area Redevelopment and Flexible Work Environment at One SeaGate

4/29/22

With a commitment to help foster the continued revitalization of downtown Toledo, Eastman & Smith relocated to new space on the 27th floor of One SeaGate at 550 North Summit Street. We previously occupied two floors in the building. The story of Eastman & Smith began in 1844, when Toledo was just seven years old, with a population of fewer than 3,000 people.

“After many years of planning for this move, and even exploring various options in the larger metropolitan area, there was no doubt that we wanted to remain right in Toledo’s downtown area,” said Fadi V. Nahhas, chair of the Eastman & Smith Executive Committee. “Our successful, and now complete, relocation to the 27th floor of One SeaGate is the next chapter of our deep Toledo roots. This is an exciting time for Toledo, and as we celebrate our 177th year in practice, we are very proud to be part of the area’s growth, revitalization and renewed infrastructure.”

The new, single-floor footprint takes up 26,000 square feet, which is about 32 percent less than the Firm’s previous space, still accommodating the same size staff plus more flexibility for an increasingly remote and mobile workforce. In addition to a number of assigned offices, the new space includes many shared, flex offices, all featuring height adjustable desks and ergonomic and comfortable seating choices. A reservation system ensures that the Firm accommodates lawyers’ and clients’ scheduling needs. Additionally, the office has spaces to support a hybrid model of collaboration, with large and small meeting rooms, casual “huddle” spaces, sound management throughout, virtual meeting tools and enhanced security features.

The new office also includes a wellness room with quiet space for one person at a time and space for nursing mothers, a café with a view of the Maumee River, and a space for after-hours functions and socializing.

Mr. Nahhas added, “Our Firm’s culture supports flexibility, and leverages technology to improve the delivery of legal services and to meet the needs of our clients. From a historical and community perspective, the new space illustrates our longevity and our commitment to local businesses. As we continue to grow and offer more legal services, we also aim to be a relevant and sought-after employer, and to attract, recruit and retain the best, most diverse legal talent.”

Eastman & Smith’s staff of over 125 includes 60 Toledo-based attorneys, with recent growth in the Firm’s Professional Liability Practice Group, Labor & Employment, Workers’ Compensation, Intellectual Property and several growth opportunities underway. “  Our presence in Toledo,” Mr.  Nahhas said, “ensures that we will continue to support the city’s economic growth, not only by generating tax revenue for the city but also by supporting downtown area restaurants, hotels, and event and entertainment venues. We enjoy showing clients the downtown area and other city attractions.”

Mr. Nahhas added, “We are committed to Toledo’s revitalization and appreciative of the efforts of organizations like ConnecToledo Downtown Development Corporation of which we are an active Board Member. Community involvement and service is a core value of the Firm. Our staff is actively involved in local organizations, and we support and sponsor many local businesses and organizations, including The Toledo Zoo, The Regional Growth Partnership, The Toledo Museum of Art and various charitable organizations.”
