Yates Discusses Proposed Overtime Changes

On July 9, 2015, James B. Yates discussed, at a Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce event, proposed changes issued on July 6, 2015, by the Department of Labor revising federal regulations governing exemptions from overtime. One change Mr. Yates discussed is a proposed increase in the minimum salary necessary to establish an exemption to $970 per week ($50,440 annually). As a result, many more employees would be eligible for overtime if the proposed changes go into effect. Mr. Yates's presentation was covered in the Toledo Blade and Mr. Yates and Sarah E. Pawlicki authored an article on the issue. Additionally, Eastman & Smith is holding seminars discussing the changes and their effects.
