Federal Initiative Targets Trucking Fraud

9/21/26

5 semitrucks of various colors parked in a row at a truck stop. Several people walking, 1 person leans against a truck and another looks beneath the hood. A red “TRUCK STOP” sign appears on the left.A new interagency initiative, the Joint Task Force Crossroads of America, focuses on fraud in the  trucking industry.  The task force’s reported goals are securing highways and borders and reducing fatalities.   Among the agencies involved are the US Department of Transportation, US Department of Homeland Security and US Attorneys for federal court districts in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Illinois.

Trucking companies and truck driving schools are the primary focus.  Over 100 schools were removed from the Training Provider Registry for high rates of drivers cited for not meeting English language requirements while 80 Notices of Inspection were issued involving “unauthorized employment, identity fraud, shell companies, and broader transportation-sector exploitation.”

Other industries may be affected as well.  The announcements gave examples of medical professionals potentially certifying drivers improperly and government employees who may have falsely issued credentials.
