Bill Holt Receives Prestigious Award

Holt Awarded the Patrick A. O'Neill Memorial Award by OSIA


Eastman & Smith is pleased to announce that Bill Holt, an attorney in the firm's Labor & Employment section, has received the prestigious Patrick A. O'Neill Memorial Award from the Ohio Self-Insurers Association (OSIA). Mr. Holt received the award at the 2010 OSIA Annual Conference in Cincinnati. Named for Patrick A. O'Neill, a founding member of the OSIA and former Ohio Director of Workers' Compensation and Unemployment Activities for General Motors Corporation, the award was established to honor those individuals who have demonstrated support and friendship to Ohio's self-insured employers. Mr. Holt is only the fourth recipient in last eleven years. Past recipients include: Vernal G. Riffe (1987) and JoAnn Davidson (1999), former Speakers of the Ohio House of Representatives; Paul E. Gillmor (1987), former President of the Ohio Senate; Robert E. Holmes (1993), retired Ohio Supreme Court justice; Robert R. Cupp (1993), current Ohio Supreme Court justice; and George V. Voinovich (1997), United States Senator.

Mr. Holt joined Eastman & Smith Ltd. as an attorney in its Labor and Employment Practice Group in 2008 after managing Chrysler's workers' compensation program for many years. He continues to practice in the area of workers' compensation. Mr. Holt has managed both self-administered and third-party-administered self-insured programs, has represented employers before all levels of the Industrial Commission of Ohio on a variety of claims issues, and has served on various boards on behalf of Ohio's self-insured employers, including the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensations Self-Insuring Employers Evaluation Board and the Ohio and Northwestern Ohio Self-Insurers Associations. Mr. Holt began his career working as a district hearing officer for the Industrial Commission. He graduated from Ohio University in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree in education and from The Ohio State University College of Law in 1980. Holt actively participates in the ongoing development of legislative and policy initiatives pertaining to Ohio workers' compensation.
